5 Reasons Why Being A Mature Student Sucks

THE MORNING PANIC What the hell does a 33 year old wear to university? Now I know the answer SHOULD be ‘whatever the hell they want’ but being a mature student in a pretty mixed-age class with a penchant for 90/00s style bin bag baggy jeans and cartoon themed tops, it makes you start to question your life and fashion choices. Especially in the first week when everyone is still getting used to everyone else, it’s all a little judge-y. Blue hair shoved in the “mum bun”, make up free and glowing (read: sweaty and gross) and adorned with tattoos and piercings in a sea of the latest trends certainly…

5 Reasons Why It’s Hard Being A Stay At Home Parent

I became a stay at home mum four years ago and the amount of comments I’ve had about how easy my “job” is and how “lucky” I am has really got to me! I was struggling with giving up a career I was bloody good at and had spent ten years building up. Of course there are lots of positives too but it is hard at times. 5 Reasons Why My Children Hate Me Today

We all know kids are fickle creatures, one moment they’re singing five currant buns at full volume, laughing away, and the next, they crumble, a pile of anger on the floor, arms flailing, legs kicking. Repeating those words and phrases you say under your breath and hope they don’t pick up…… and that’s just my tween…. don’t even get me started on the younger three! Mainly because they tell me at full volume multiple times between cereal and their bedtime story. It’s exhausting of course it’s all forgotten the…

5 Reasons Why I’m Going to Eat the Strawberries

I like strawberries. They are the best fruit. Everyone else in my family likes them too. My three year old son and baby daughter shovel them in, staining their faces and clothes with red juice in their frenzy to consume them. The thing is they’re pretty expensive, and you don’t get many in a punnet, so I never eat them. I don’t know when I embarked on this little act of self-sacrifice. My husband has no such qualms about saving these precious morsels for the children, liberally adding handfuls to his yoghurt while I watch on disapprovingly. He doesn’t even know I do this. But at some point I decided…

5 Reasons Why I Hate School Holidays

My son has only just finished his Reception year at school and already I don’t like the school holidays. Yes I know that he’s learnt a lot, and developed massively on all fronts since he started, but I’ve been dreading the summer holidays for weeks. Here’s why: 1. Term Time Only? I also have a daughter who is nearly three and during term time we’d got into a nice pattern of weekly classes and activities for her. Swimming, gymnastics, Tumble Tots etc. But come the summer holidays and everything stops. She doesn’t understand why we’re not doing the fun things any more, and I have to find alternatives to occupy…
